A Bagobo woman in her native dress.
Davao is a culturally diverse city. Many tribes settled on this land long before Christian migrants all over the Philippines arrived. But then, when an overwhelming number of waves upon waves of Christian Filipino migrants from Visayas and Luzon came, it pushes the tribes to settle further inland. However, the tribes own culture is preserve and respected by the Christian Dabawenyos.
I am proud that Davao has its own cultural identity. We have our own dances, foods, dresses, beliefs, rituals and is being kept alive until this day. Davao ethnic dances are taught in schools both public and private. It is a favorite presentation in school programs and festivals in Davao. The Davao culture specially our dances is also one of which attracts visiting tourists.
This is the Rice Cycle Dance. A dance originated from Davao of the Bagobo tribe. This youtube video was taken during a cultural show in the USA. It is a very nice dance performance making me really proud being a Dabawenyo. Our culture is being showcased internationally and appreciated by foreign audience. WOW!
