linmarrtower

Midrise condominiums are making their presence felt in Davao skyline. Linmarr Towers (construction above) as an example is slowly rising up in the heart of Chinatown. There are three buildings, 6 stories each, in this project in which that one in the picture above, as you can clearly see, is already taking shape.

Who are these people spending a lot of money for this type of dwellings by the way? Its crazy that the demand for residential condos is high and units are selling like hotcakes for a Mindanao city like Davao. At present, with a population of 1.4 million, Davao has the largest number of residents outside Metro Manila. It would only take a few years when Dabawenyos are living compactly in highrises based on this condo trend right now. It’s good apparently as long as slum dwellings are not spreading in durian land.

This is a cool rendering of the project

The controversial Baywalk Park development in Ecoland, financed by Queensland, is generating a lot of buzz during its construction about few years ago. For one, the infamous debate in the city council about the irregularities in the required documents for the construction of the said park ironically has been helping the project of getting the people’s support. Plus, there are also a strong protests going on against the 25 feet tall replica of the famous Michael Angelo’s Statue of David. Prudish parents do not want their kids to see that humongous genitals which for me a mentality which is so 2000 and late (which means too backward).

The park is really a treat and you can see a lot of cool stuffs that will relieve you from stress. That awesome pool for example (picture above) is infested with a significant number of fierce sharks. Try to visit this place when your in Davao.

There is an ongoing construction in Mintal, Davao City right now and its the latest and the first of its kind in Mindanao. I am talking about the DECA Wakeboard Park. Yeah dang right it is! You know, riding on a surf (am I right?) while holding in a rope attached to a speeding motor boat and flip-flopping in the air. For those people who are into extreme sports, which there are lots of them by the way, this facility will offer them a new venue in getting an adrenalin rush. This thing kinda provide Davao a big boost in tourism. Just imagine herds of adventure seekers in and out of the country and the amount of economic activity they will fuel from getting in here. This project should be finished ASAP!

The Marina in Holiday Oceanview Samal offers the best way to enjoy the scenic beauty of the sea waters of Davao Gulf. Off course, unlike me and many other commoner, who cannot afford this kind of luxury of owning a boat, we can just simply watch with awe at the sight of the boats from the rich as they provide breathtaking view of their expensive yachts floating around Davao gulf. This yacht club is the only one of its kind in Mindanao. It’s facilities are being in round the clock under construction so that it’s eager clients can already start floating their boats in Davao’s pristine sea.

Davao City couldn’t match up with Cebu City and Metro Manila’s skyline right now yet it is so much cleaner and remarkably well organized in comparison (Just look at those pics below). Still, I am hoping there will be more taller buildings to come in the nearest future (which of course I think will come around in an unexpectedly earliest possible time. I will not be surprised one day I will wake up and BOOM! High rises are sprouting like there is no tomorrow).

Gosh! I’m back posting into my blog, it was a long time ago since my last post.

There are lots of things been going on in the city since then and of course those things are all heading to more progress. By the way, the city of Davao has been deprived of an adequate sports facility. It’s been so long since the PTA Sports Complex was burn to the ground and that Dabawenyos weren’t able to enjoy the benefits of having a high standard sports/concert venue since then.

But not for long Davao peeps, USeP (University of Southeastern Philippines) is going to build a 10,000 seating capacity, modern and slick gymnasium the biggest in Davao Region. USeP Gym and Cultural Center will be the first ever of its kind in the city. It is a project of Speaker Prospero Boy Nograles. Here’s a photo of the planned Gymnasium and a link to USeP website.

Dabawenyos are so delighted to have a brand new park right at heart of the city. Opened early this year, the local government project called “PEOPLE’S PARK” will be forever a legacy for Mayor Rodrigo Duterte. Transforming the old, dilapidated, and razed Palaruang Panlunsod, a venue for sports events and orchid shows, into a place of eden never fails to mesmerized the local residents and visitors alike.

The old track from the old sports complex was retained and that is what I like about the park, it is now a favorite place for the health buffs like me for an early morning jogging and exercise. Joggers can jog around the track amidst the greenery and the serene environment. Somehow it makes the morning physical fitness worthwhile and therapeutic.

Today, the park is jam pack with people from all walks of life and from all ages. People of different shapes and sizes or even colors (a handful of Caucasians) are seen strolling along the park. Wheel chairs are available for the disabled, people are hearing Filipino songs and most of all, the security at the entrance gate managed to keep riff raffs away from the park so people can enjoy their stroll without being bothered by beggars. It keeps people safe also.

I notice that there are buses parked just outside the gates on a daily basis. These buses come from different provinces. No wonder there are many people inside (see the photo above). Really, the park is like a breath of fresh air within the bustle of Davao City.

Following the success of the Damosa Gateway comes another ICT park to rise in Lanang, Davao City. Its called “K7 STRIP”. The project is currently under construction with the ongoing round the clock work of its commercial strips. Aside from the 2 commercial strips, the project will have recreational center, function rooms, call center facilities, a hotel and of course a car park with a beautiful green landscape. Once finish, this will add up to Davao’s growing collection of ICT parks and hotel rooms.

“DAMOSA GATEWAY” is the first IT Park developed in Davao City. The complex had just recently operating early this year with the opening of the “Damosa IT Park” and the “Damosa Business Center”. Its facilities are the first in Davao to be accredited by PEZA. The park paved the way for more ICT industries who went rushing in to Davao to join the current ICT boom being enjoyed in the city. The ICT Park includes Damosa IT Park, Damosa Business Center, Market Basket, a strip mall, restos/bars and a  24 hour McDonald outlet.

Gaisano Mall of Davao aka “G-Mall” is expanding to Sta. Ana Street. The wing expansion will have 7 levels providing additional floor area for shoppers to wander. The mall is simultaneously renovating its interior too making it more pleasant to the eyes of mall goers. Also (though it is still a rumor) when this expansion is finish, a 6 level structure will rise on the other side of the existing building. The management is aiming for a complete new package, a bigger and better mall for its patrons. (Oct. 26) The construction is in full throttle as workers continue building the project even during night.
