Update: Davao City Projects and Investments

Now that the Kadayawan Festival is over its time to get back to business. First thing that comes into my mind is to know the status of these big projects in the city. Any updates of the following?

1. Davao-Samal Bridge

Public Works and Highways Acting Secretary Manuel Bonoan, together with USEC Rafael Yabut and DPWH XI Director Dimas Soguilon inspected the proposed $120-million bridge linking Samal to Davao City. (PIA)

2. Matina Flyover

Last Update (June 6, 2007)

The other project being eyed by DPWH, the flyover along McArthur Highway at the Matina Crossing, is intended to alleviate the congestion of traffic in the area as vehicles that headed north and south will not have to wait it out for vehicles turning towards Matina Aplaya and Matina Pangi. The flyover project of the DPWH is set to be passable by January 1, 2008.

3. New Shopping Malls

I got this information from wikipedia.com and it says the malls will open on 2008.

4. Davao Light Rail Transit

THE City Council approved Tuesday a memorandum of understanding between a private consulting company and the City Government to conduct feasibility for a light rail mass transit in Davao City.

5. Davao City Sports Complex

Last Update (May 29, 2007)

Avisado assures the public that although the project will not be realized sooner as planned, the city government will find a way to proceed with it as soon as the necessary implements are put in place and the land issue is resolved.

6. Riverfront Corporate City

When will I see high-rise buildings there? It’s still a vast empty lots.

7. Korean Business Investment

The Korean firm, which opened last year, is putting in P410 million for its property development projects in Buhangin and the island garden city of Samal this year alone. Justin Choi, chief operating officer, says the company is putting up a 120-unit residential hotel estimated to cost P355 million in a 7,200 square meter lot in Buhangin area.

8. 3 High-Rise Buildings

Although Architect Sonny Labao did not named the investors about three buildings are being planned even as he said that investors are in the process of getting the necessary clearances and other related documents.

9. Visitor’s Lounge in Eagle Park

Last Update (August 11, 2007)

The Department of Tourism (DOT) committed to assist in the rehabilitation of the Philippine Eagle Foundation Center (PEFC) where it turned over P5 million as a start-up fund for the center’s improvement.

10. Sasa Port Upgrade

Last Update (July 3, 2007)

THE upgrade to international standards of the Sasa Port in Davao City is the priority of the International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) as the private firm expanded its operations in the region late last year.

11. Bankerohan Bridge

Last Update (August 16, 2007)

THE plan and design for the new Bankerohan bridge submitted by the regional office of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to their main office in Manila was finally approved Tuesday.

12. Davao City Water District New Building

Any news about this DCWD project?

Hope our government will do something to fast track these projects.
