City Life: A Very Addictive City Building PC Game

02Apr08

Have you ever tried building your own dream city? I’m a city building PC game junkie for your information and I remember playing that old SimCity game back in 1998. Those where the days when internet and PC Gaming was still at its infancy. SimCity was the all time no. 1 PC Game in the world during that time and I know it should be since its very addictive. It was developed by Maxis and EA.

Right now, there is another PC Game which is basically the same with the SimCity I used to play. It’s called City Life from Monte Cristo. What gives this game an edge from SimCity is that after building your city, develop it, and make your citizens happy you can actually zoom in and go first person mode and cruise around your city like your actually there. That was really cool and it gives City Life’s superiority miles and miles ahead from SimCity.

So what happens next to my actual life after playing for long long hours? Well it gives me headache, eye bags, and complete lack of sleep while at work which are direct consequences of playing this damn game all night until dawn. So, beware……. its very addictive.

By the way, I would like to share to you the city I built in City Life. This is my very own Davao City and I’m too damn proud of it. Here are screen shots of Davao City.

Its a nice game. But after building great cities, nothing much happens.

Good thing for this game is that you can “zoom in” inside the city. You can walk thru it. The buildings, the highways, the parks are too realistic.

A big letdown is that there is no option to build churches.

I would suggest SimCity4 for people who are into city building games. Although its a game that is over 4 years old already, it still never ceases to put a smile on my face when I see skyscrapers on my Davao City map😉

There was a city building game that I used to play as a kid a long time ago and I am not sure if it was a SimCity game or what. I just remember being able to build a city (stadiums, buildings etc.) and then being able to either create a disaster or the game would create a natural disaster on its own. It was fantastic! I remember that it was around the same time as another game that I loved to play which was Jumpman. If anyone knows what the name of the city building game is, please let me know. I want to find it.

The city buildings games that I find these days are nice, but I am not able to do the things that I would like. City Life sounds great but I would like to be able to create more with it. Ultimately, I want the ability of creating the buildings to look like what I am envisioning, placing the buildings, the layout of the land (i.e. mountains, beach or a combination) and the ability to create natural disasters etc. I like the idea of being able to look at a city through the eyes of a resident. I guess you could say I want to create “life” into a game. Maybe I am asking for too much, but that’s what I am looking for in a city building game.
